Registering the birth of your baby

You will need to register the birth of your child no later than three months after his/her birth.
The birth certificate will contain the information on the child and the parents that is given at the time of registration, so it is important that the information given is accurate. It is difficult to change the details after the initial registration.

Registering a stillbirth

The Irish Stillbirth & Neonatal Death Society (now A Little Lifetime Foundation) campaigned for 10 years (1983 -1993) for a Stillbirth Register and were successful in the achieving their goal.
Since 1 January 1995, parents of a stillborn child in Ireland have been able to register their child’s birth, even if he/she was born before that date.
